Football mania

Healey Junior, Infant and Nursery School was delighted to welcome the Premier League trophy for an extra-special visit, along with a new set of kits for the girls' team as part of the The Kit Scheme, in collaboration with Nike (providing over 4,000 sets of girls' football kits to schools across the country) which our learners will wear with great pride every time they play. Healey champions wellbeing in every area of their curriculum and playing sport is a great way to keep fit and healthy both physically and mentally. It is also a fantastic way for young people to learn about teamwork, resilience and leadership. You can see from the photos that Healey has some very talented female footballers!

Learners play football every day and for them to have the opportunity to actually see the Premier League trophy up close and personal was absolutely inspiring. They also learned a great deal about the history of the trophy and why it matters so much to so many people. During this session, the learners were spellbound - you couldn't hear a pin drop! We were absolutely thrilled that the trophy and the Premier League team came to Batley - a huge thank you to Huddersfield Town Foundation for making this happen!

In a week where football is everywhere, due to Euro 2024, the power of each individual player is seen first-hand by the exceptional goal from Jude Bellingham in last night's England match. A player who has just celebrated his 21st birthday at the weekend, will now be celebrating after scoring what will surely be one of the best and most memorable goals in footballing history, to keep England in the competition. The country celebrated in awe and delight as well as sheer relief! Bellingham demonstrated such skill with that stunning overhead shot - there really was magic on the pitch at that moment.

Healey and our entire Trust family of schools will be cheering England on next weekend and we'll keep practising our football skills every day. What a great role model Bellingham is for all young people.
